FAQs

General Questions

What is methane detection sensing?

Methane detection sensing is a non-contact detection method based on laser technology. It enables rapid identification of methane leaks from a distance without requiring personnel to approach the target area.

What detection technology is used in the BL-CH4 series?

The BL-CH4 series utilizes TDLAS (Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy) technology, which analyzes methane gas absorption at specific laser wavelengths to achieve high-sensitivity detection.

What units are used for methane remote sensing measurements?

Results are typically displayed in ppm·m (parts per million × meters), representing the integrated methane concentration along the laser path.

Which gases can the BL-CH4 series detect?

The instruments are designed to detect methane (CH₄) only.

Does methane remote sensing require direct contact with the leak source?

No.

The system can scan the target area remotely with a laser, allowing methane detection without personnel approaching or directly contacting the gas.

Can methane be detected at night?

Yes.

TDLAS laser detection does not rely on ambient light and works effectively in low-light or nighttime conditions.

Note: Nighttime flights must comply with local regulations and flight safety requirements. It is recommended to verify obstacle avoidance, illumination, and on-site flight conditions in advance.

Does rain or fog affect detection performance?

Detection may be affected.

Heavy rain, dense fog, or smoke can weaken the laser return signal, impacting detection range and stability. Use the system under good visibility conditions whenever possible.

Why does the device sometimes trigger low-concentration alerts even when no obvious leak is present?

Trace background methane, gas diffusion, vehicle exhaust, or reflective interference may cause brief weak signals.

This is normal behavior for high-sensitivity laser remote sensing instruments.

Does detection signal weaken over longer distances?

Yes.

Laser return signals may attenuate with distance. Actual detection performance can also be influenced by reflective surface materials, ambient light, weather, and other environmental factors.

Can methane remote sensing accurately locate leak sources?

The system can assist in quickly identifying suspected leak areas, but due to gas dispersion and drift, it indicates the location of the gas cloud rather than an exact fixed point.

Can methane concentration be monitored in real-time during drone flights?

Yes.

Detection data can be displayed in real-time on the APP interface, with alerts, concentration curve visualization, and data upload support.

Which industries can benefit from methane remote sensing?

It is widely applicable in oil & gas, energy, chemical, city gas, landfill sites, and unattended inspection scenarios.

What are the advantages of methane remote sensing over traditional manual inspections?

● Non-contact, long-distance detection

● Reduced risk for personnel in hazardous areas

● Improved inspection efficiency

● Support for automated drone inspections

● Data retention and cloud-based management
