Project Background
As the natural gas industry continues to prioritize operational safety, digitalized maintenance, and intelligent inspection systems, traditional manual inspection methods are increasingly challenged by limitations in efficiency, safety, and inspection coverage within gas regulating station environments.
Gas regulating stations typically contain dense pipeline networks, valve groups, flange connection points, and pressure regulating and metering equipment, all of which are considered high-risk areas for natural gas leakage. Conventional manual inspection methods often face challenges in rapid leak localization and large-area inspection efficiency under complex facility conditions.
To further improve safety management standards for natural gas infrastructure, a state-owned natural gas operator in Kazakhstan deployed the BL-CH4 UAV laser methane detection system developed by BLV Technology for on-site testing at a gas regulating station.
The project aimed to verify the system’s rapid methane leak inspection capabilities under complex industrial operating conditions.

These areas represent high-risk leakage points and require high detection sensitivity and precise localization capabilities.
During the test, engineers conducted UAV inspection flights across critical operational zones within the station.
Throughout the mission, the system continuously displayed methane concentration changes in real time while enabling rapid identification of abnormal leakage areas through concentration curves and visualized indicators.
Even in complex and densely distributed pipeline environments, the system maintained stable data output and reliable detection performance.
